I looked for God, and found Him in our grief,
In tears and sorrow over loved ones lost.
He waits for us, He offers us relief
With arms held wide; no payment asked, no cost.
For life is filled with suffering and pain
Far more than we can handle on our own,
But God will turn our losses into gain
And give us far more joy than we have known.
Eleven days of Lent: come quickly now,
For grief has overwhelmed us, and we fall.
Come quickly, God; before Your feet we bow
And worship You, who are our all in all.
O, save us, Lord, for we are small and weak,
But it is You whom now we humbly seek.

Lent: Day Five
I looked for God, and found Him in the silence,
When no one's home, and all is still and quiet;
For He is there, between the storm and violence
In ways He can't be found while in the riot.
Here, sitting by myself, He comforts me
When all around is empty, lonely, cold;
He waits for me to seek Him and be free
From fear, and opens up His arms to hold.
Five days of Lent: O Lord, be never far,
For I need You to free me from my sin.
Be here with me, be Thou my sun and star;
To Thy great kingdom guide me surely in.
I thank You, God; You leave us not alone;
You even came to us in flesh and bone.
When no one's home, and all is still and quiet;
For He is there, between the storm and violence
In ways He can't be found while in the riot.
Here, sitting by myself, He comforts me
When all around is empty, lonely, cold;
He waits for me to seek Him and be free
From fear, and opens up His arms to hold.
Five days of Lent: O Lord, be never far,
For I need You to free me from my sin.
Be here with me, be Thou my sun and star;
To Thy great kingdom guide me surely in.
I thank You, God; You leave us not alone;
You even came to us in flesh and bone.

Lent: Day One
I looked for God, and found Him in the church:
The church, which is His body, He the head.
We come together, take the wine and bread—
Christ's blood and body, hanging on the birch.
Of course! you say, of course we find God here,
Where Bible's read and hymns are played and sung.
But often, though we say it with our tongue,
We fail to see that God is really near.
On this Ash Wednesday, thinking on repentance,
I realize that my God has come to earth
And saved us, rising from a humble birth
To die, and thus to obviate our sentence.
And not just then, but present everywhere:
For God remains, and we are in His care.
